RESULTS
We held the last of our youth events for this season yesterday and had 6 young men for the foil, but no epee. In the foil, Knox Bell came in 6th but got touches on almost everyone. Ethan Darr, Isaac Mcclaren, and Waylon Shepherd all had 2 victories after the pool. Isaac defeated Ethan in their quarterfinal, so Ethan finished 5th. Waylon defeated Knox in their quarterfinal, so Knox was 6th. In the semis, Graham Betz defeated Isaac and Waylon defeated Jeremiah Yandle, so Isaac and Jeremiah tied for 3rd. In the final Graham defeated Waylon in a close back and forth match. That means Graham won the sword for the guys. No women fenced in any event, so that sword was not given out. Isaac won the vote for the best sportsmanship, so also received a set of swords. Thanks to Joel Ertzberger for helping with the reffing, and James Russell and Caleb Yandle for giving the fencers some helpful advice. Thanks to all the parents for bringing the fencers in and supporting them. Hopefully, next year the schedule (especially in the fall) is not so crowded, and we can have more of these.
IMPORTANT DEADLINES
The last big local event of the year will be on May 30 at Apex. The opens are blowing up into huge events. Both are easy A2s. The D and under foil is still a very manageable D1. Registration closes today May 24th.
The deadline for the Absolute All-American and Academic All-American is June 2nd. Here is a link to the applications:
CLUB UPDATES
Obviously (?), no practice tomorrow, Memorial Day. This is the last week of practices for afterschool and homeschool, so May 28 will be the last day for either of these. Regular Saturday practices will start June 6th.
I don’t want to suggest a McDougal for this week since people may be practicing for Apex, but how about a Tuesday, June 2nd, 1 touch epee McDougal?
ARMORING CLINIC
There seems to be some interest in an armoring clinic, so Herman is looking at setting one up this summer. We would probably have Kathy Walters come in. Kathy is (was?) the person who represents the US at International Armorer meetings and also is one of the people they send to International events to oversee the international armorers. Let Herman or me know if you are interested and some dates that might be good. We already have about half a dozen people who have expressed an interest.
