Beginning/Advanced Group Fencing Classes

Cape Fear Fencing Association offers many beginner classes to get you started on your fencing career. Classes are available for students ages 8-98. Students receive instruction in history, footwork, bladework, rules and tactics. All classes will end in a class tournament to put your newfound skills to the test.

All students will need a non-competitive (Access) USA Fencing membership ($29). Membership follows the USA Fencing season, which occurs between August 1 through July 31. Any memberships purchased after March 31 will be valid through the following USA Fencing season. You should bring proof of your USA Fencing membership to your first class. If you need help, we are happy to assist you with this process.

Students should wear comfortable sportswear to class and tennis shoes. You should be able to move freely in whatever you wear.

All gear needed for the classes will be provided.

Summer Fencing Camps

Each summer Cape Fear Fencing Association, at the direction of Coach Spahr, offers several weeklong summer camps for beginning and more experienced fencers. Camps run $195 for the week and have the following format: 9 AM – 5 PM, Monday – Friday. All students must have proof of an active USA Fencing membership (non-competitive access memberships are available for $29). Students are responsible for providing their own lunch, as well as snacks and drinks.  The Association provides equipment. An equipment deposit may be required.

Beginner Camp

The beginner camp covers history, footwork, bladework, tactics and rules, culminating in an in-class tournament.  Weeklong beginning intensives go over all material covered in a typical beginner class plus additional information and instruction.

Advanced Camps: Foil and Epee

Advanced camps, targeting specific weapons, are for fencers who have previous fencing experience and have completed, at minimum, a beginner class. These camps are geared toward fencers who wish to compete seriously.
