RESULTS
We had a fair number of people travel to Myrtle Beach for the regional. Starting off Saturday were Thoren and Walter Davis in the Cadet Foil. Both went 2-3 in their pools but lost their first DEs to fencers who finished in the top 10. Thoren ended up 25th and Walter 24th. Robert Thomas entered the Div II epee and was 1-4 out of pools. He lost a close DE to finish 38th. I entered the vet foil, lost all my bouts and the DE to finish 19th. Jackson Jones went 1-4 in his pool in Junior epee and lost a DE to the eventual winner to finish 56th. I lost all my pool bouts in the Vet sabre, but came back to win a DE, before bowing out to the eventual winner and taking the bronze medal. On Sunday, the Davis’s were at it again in the Junior foil. They were the two lowest seeded fencers in the event. However, Thoren went 1-4 and lost a close DE to finish 34th and Walter was 2-4, before losing his DE to wind up 24th. Robert, Herman, and I competed in The Vet epee. I was 1-4 in my pool (But the one was a victory over an A) and won my first DE before losing the second to finish 15th. Herman followed a similar path (1-4, won a DE, before a DE loss) to end up 14th. Robert was 3-3 in his pool but lost his DE to the person who ended up winning to come in 12th. Graham Betz fenced in the Y14 foil. He didn’t win any in the pool but came back to win his first DE. That put him into a DE with fencer who was undefeated on the entire day and he finished 31st. Jackson and Robert were in the Div 1A epee. Robert went 2-4 in his pool, lost the DE and ended up 44th. Jackson was 1-4 in the pool, pulled out a close 15-14 DE, before ending the day at 31st.
Most of the events were not extremely large but had a number of extremely good fencers. Many of our people had their best days yet at this level of event, so congratulations to all.
CLUB UPDATES
The standard fall schedule is totally here as far as lessons and practice. A Saturday practice this week is possible, let me know if there is interest.
We are going to try something different for the October 6th class. It will be an epee only class and limited to those 30 and over. Tuesday/Thursday at 6:30 pm, 6 weeks, standard $60 fee, and USA Fencing membership still required. Let me know if you are interested or have questions.
INFORMATION ON UPCOMING EVENTS
Our first event will be on October 24th and will include Open Foil, Open Epee, and a Div III (D and under) Foil event. It is now up on askfred, and has caps of 28 fencers, so start getting signed up. Very few of our people are currently entered. There are only five people in the foil events, but the epee is filling quickly (only 3 spots left). A number of other clubs’ events (both sanctioned and unsanctioned) are starting to appear on askfred.
I don’t check all the other events every day, so if you sign up for something like an in-state event (Apex Novice Cup, something at Forge or All-American) make sure I know so the club can give you proper support.
