IMPORTANT DEADLINES
The last big local event of the year will be on May 30 at Apex. We have some people in the Open Foil and D and under foil. The Open is a C1, but the D and under is still just an E. The Open epee is already a solid A2 event (Clicks are now in) but probably won’t become an A3 and would probably be the last good tune up before Nationals. Registration closes May 24th.
The deadline for the Absolute All-American and Academic All-American is June 2nd. Here is a link to the applications:
CLUB UPDATES
Should be a standard week of practice this week. The last week of practices for afterschool and homeschool will be the week after Memorial Day (so May 28 will be the last day for any of these.) Saturday practices will depend on how many people ultimately decide to go to Apex, so probably starting June 6th.
We are doing another 12 and under event on May 23rd. It will have foil at 10 am and epee at 2 pm. We give trophies to the top 4 competitors overall, medals to the top 3 nine and under competitors (if they don’t win a trophy), and swords to the season long point winners. Hopefully, these should be a bit larger. Volunteer referees would be very welcome.
We need to a McDougal soon (maybe May 28?) or one of the trophies will be departing for Italy. Probably something involving epee or sabre (It’s our only hope.) Give me ideas this week.
ARMORING CLINIC
There seems to be some interest in an armoring clinic, so Herman is looking at setting one up this summer. We would probably have Kathy Walters come in. Kathy is (was?) the person who represents the US at International Armorer meetings and also is one of the people they send to International events to oversee the international armorers. Let Herman or me know if you are interested and some dates that might be good. We already have about half a dozen people who have expressed an interest.
