A new beginning fencing class will start on board Camp Lejeune on Friday, January 26th, at 1900 in Room 132 of the Wallace Creek Fitness Center.
The class lasts for eight sessions with each session lasting approximately one hour. If weather or other issues force a cancellation we will add classes on until we get to 8 sessions.
Class will teach history, footwork, bladework, rules, tactics, and end in a class tournament. Appropriate for ages 8 – 80.
Non-military students will need to get a pass to get on board base. Please be certain to let Coach Spahr know that you need this.
Cost for the 8 session class is $40. You will also need to have a USA Fencing membership for insurance purposes. The non-competitive membership costs $10 and is good until July 31, 2018. The membership can be purchased online at usfencing.org under Membership. Memberships can also be obtained through a paper form, however, USA Fencing charges an additional $10 for processing paper forms. I will have instructions for the online process if you cannot make it work.
Fencers should wear sneakers and loose fitting clothing. CFFA provides all fencing equipment.
Class is taught by Greg Spahr, head coach of the Cape Fear Fencing Association. He is an internationally accredited coach and has fenced internationally. His students have won both men’s and women’s North Carolina High School Championships, collegiate titles, have finished in the top 8 of National events, and won medals at World Championships.
