Well it has only been a day and more entries (on Ask FRED) are starting to come in. The numbers and ratings are looking like this:
Epee 12
( 1A, 1C, 2D's, 6E's, 2U's)
Foil 7
( 1C, 2D's, 1E, 3U's)
Saber 9
( 2A's, 1B, 3C's, 3U's)
Ratings wise the Saber event is in the lead. If they get one more B or higher (along with 6 more people), it will be an A1 event. Epee can easily make B1 status with another B(or higher), C, and 3 more people. Foilists need to get on the ball!!!
You can keep abreast of the event participants by going on AskFRED.net, and I will be posting updates on the forum also.

I'd like to go if I can, but I think Summer Ventures will still be going on that weekend.
I could ask for that weekend off, but there's, like, a .01% chance they'll say I can go. The people at the informational meeting made sure to make it very clear that if you leave for any reason, you can't come back.
So it's probably not gonna work out for me. But my dad will probably enter in epee.
Come to think of it, both dads might enter in epee, provided Mr. Mailman's knees are up to speed. ![]()

Just for general information, the goal is to have 25 fencers (at least) in each event at the State Games of NC. With 25 fencers in an event and given the response so far from NC and SC fencers, I think that the event could be a great success.
Here is some information from the USFA event rating document. This shows what it required at 15 and 25 fencer events, and what I think is quite possible.
With 25 Fencers: Awards:
C2: 4D's & 4E's 1C, 2-4D, 5-8E
B2: 2B's, 2C's, 2D's 1B, 2-4C, 5-8D, 9-12E
A2: 2A's, 2B's, 2C's 1A, 2-4B, 5-8C, 9-10D, 11-12E
With 15 Fencers: Awards:
C1: 2C's, 2D's, 2E's 1C, 2-4D, 5-8E
B1: 2B's, 2C's, 2D's 1B, 2-4C, 5-6D, 7-8E
A1: 2A's, 2B's, 2C's 1A, 2B, 3-4C, 5-6D, 7-8E
As you can see the difference between B1 & B2 along with A1 & A2 is simply the number of fencers, as the required ratings are the same. However the number of awards that are presented are greater. I really want to see CFFA represented well, and I think that many of you will do well and earn or improve your ratings. ![]()

In reference to AskFRED listings:
Epee is now up to 21 fencers, and a possible B1 (4 fencers shy of a B2). ![]()
Foil has finally made it to 15 fencers, and a possible C1 (10 fencers shy of a C2).![]()
Saber is at 20 fencers, and a possible A1 (5 fencers shy of an A2).![]()
There are only 15 official entrants on the State Games of NC website currently.![]()
Those of you that have not officially signed up on the State Games website I implore you to do so as soon as you can. It is nice to see the numbers of fencers intending to compete in the games, but the disparity between intent and registered is worrying. Having 56 fencers showing intent and only 15 official entries causes me concern. ![]()

The best link that I have is www.ncsports.org
From there people can go to the State Games of NC section.
It would be nice to have more CFFA fencers at the event. (hint, hint) We have a very capable group of fencers enhanced by the coaching of Greg. It would be a shame to deprive other fencers of the experience of defeat by their hands.
With the likelyhood of 3 states being represented (NC, SC, GA) it would be a chance to face a broader range of fencers. Don't forget that participation in the State Games of NC qualifies fencers to enter the Southeast Sports Festival that is to be held in Tallahassee FL August 1-3 2008 (I have not seen the specific date for fencing yet). There will likely be 12 states represented at that event. This again would be a good chance to test your skills against fencers that you won't have the chance to face often.

The Southeast Sports Festival has the venue listed now, but still not when the events are. But they say to check back.

If we can get enough people the Southeast Sports Festival would be a nice roadtrip for the club. I won't be able to compete in the fencing events at the State Games of NC, but I will be competing in two of the shooting competitions in the games. Given that it seems that participation in the State Games is all that is required, I plan to enter the fencing events at the SESF.
Yeah it sounds odd, but if it works I'm up for it. ![]()

....And the State Game numbers curretly are:
(AskFRED)
Epee 21 fencers, possible B1 (4 shy of a B2)
Foil 18 fencers, possible C1 (7 shy of a C2)
Saber 24 fencers, possible A1 (1 shy of an A2)
There are 41 fencers accounting for the 63 entries on AskFred.
Only 12 fencers officially registered on the SGNC website, accounting for 18 entries.
It is finally shaping up, in my opinion. Now to get all of the logistics worked out.
75 entries were the minimum goal, and it is close to that. If all of those that preregister on AskFRED officially register I will be quite happy. ![]()

Update (based on AskFRED)
Epee: 25 fencers, possible B2 (An "A" and a "B" from A2)
Foil: 23 fencers, possible C1 (2 fencers shy of C2)
Saber: 28 fencers, Possible A2 (That is as good as it is likely to get. The next level requires 64 fencers!!!
)
There are now 17 fencers officially registered on the SGNC website. ![]()
At this point I expect that all of the events will make it to A2 rating. There are only two states out of NC, GA, SC, TN, & VA that have State Games (NC & VA). Fencers from GA, SC, & TN have shown interest in participating in the State Games of NC. An "A" rated Foil fencer from GA has advised me that he is interested in participating, and I believe that others from his club at least will attend also. Virginia only allows residents or fencers listed as VA Division to compete in their fencing event.
Now it comes down to the fencers who have shown intent on AskFRED to officially register on the SGNC website. ![]()

I have now acquired 8 directors for the State Games, and in the process of teying to acquire 2 more referees from the Georgia Division. Due to the level of competition expected, I felt it best to see if I could get some referees from outside the division to forestall any problems with fencer-director associations. The directors that I have at this time are as follows:
Karen Blakeborough (also the head referee for the event)
Joe Pipkin
Bill Charuk
Matt Cox
Justin Jacobs
Donnie Zelinski
Nora Reber
Robert Thomas ![]()
I expect to catch some flak from the Division about some of my decisions, but I have made the best decisions possible I believe.
Karen Blakeborough has advised me that she is willing to proctor the referees exam and handle referee practicals for those who wish to take advantage of this opportunity.

Currently the Epee and Saber events at the State Games of NC will be A2 events based off of the intent to compete listed fencers on AskFRED. The Foil event will be a C2 event based of the intent to compete listed fencers on AskFRED. ![]()
There are 30 Epee, 30 Saber, and 26 Foil entries listed on AskFRED. Several fencers (about 40%) have entered multiple events. ![]()
